If we only had 2 weeks: Peru itinerary

Sometimes, I use affiliate/sponsored links with my recommendations, which if bought through might earn me a few pennies at absolutely no extra cost to you. This helps with the cost of keeping this site alive so I can continue to guide you on your travels. Please remember that I would never ever ever recommend anything I don’t or wouldn’t use myself. Big thanks to each and every one of you who have trusted my recommendations so far! Lozzy x

We’re lucky enough that our location independent business means that we can travel extra slow. If this is an option to you, we strongly recommend that you take your time, really getting to know and appreciate each country you’re in rather than try to cram as many passport stamps as you can into a few months. We would advise at least one month in each country in Latin America, perhaps with the exception of Panama which has less going on.

However, that’s not always possible, as we are often asked by people who only have a 2 week holiday from their jobs where we would prioritise in the given time. So behold! Here is our 2 weeks Peru itinerary for anyone who is tight on time but still wants to soak up the best that this incredible country has to offer.

As this is a 2 week trip, we assume that you will be beginning your 2 weeks Peru itinerary with a flight to Cusco and ending your journey in Lima.

Day Where Don’t miss Where to stay
1 Cusco San Pedro Market for souvenirs and fruit smoothies. Take a day or two to acclimatise to the altitude prior to your next adventure Wild Rover Hostel if you like to party, if not head to Ecopackers Hostel
2 Cusco Chocolate-making tour, free walking tour, buy a Cusco Touristic Ticket if you want to visit any musuems
3 Aguas Calientes & Machu Picchu Take what we lovingly refer to as the ‘Cheapskate Route’ to Machu Picchu. This will give you a night in Aguas Calientes included after getting a bus from Cusco and then walking from Hidroelectrica Included in your tour
4 Cusco After getting a bus or hiking up to Machu Picchu in the morning, you’ll be back on a bus to Cusco by the afternoon
5 Cusco Day of rest
6 Cusco Rainbow Mountain trek Night bus to Ica, then taxi to Huacachina
7 Huacachina Dune-buggying, climbing the dunes for sunset Desert Nights
8 Bus to Lima Kokopelli Hostel
9 Lima Take Kokopelli’s city tour with their manager, Lui – you will not regret it!
10 Lima Visit Miraflores, Barranco, historical centre (see the Lima guide for more!) Excluciva night bus to Máncora
11 Máncora Learn to surf, hike to the lighthouse at sunset, party at Loki Hostel Psygon Surf Camp or Misfits Hostel
12 Máncora Take a day trip to see waterfalls, do rafting etc. Avoid swimming with turtles unless you can live with boats baiting them in using chunks of ham
13 Máncora Enjoy a day of doing absolutely nothing on the beach Night bus to Lima
14 Lima Fly home!

If you haven’t yet decided where in Latin America to spend your 2 weeks holiday, you might also want to check these out before booking those flights!

Got more than 2 weeks in Peru?

In that case, we’d recommend using the 2 weeks Peru itinerary but adding a trip to Arequipa after Cusco from where you can visit the Colca Canyon, and Paracas after Huacachina to go and see the Mars-like desert coastline of the Paracas National Reserve.
